The Wretched review – by-the-numbers, unscary horror movie - MW
The title has been blatantly and arbitrarily applied to an unorthodox film, from independent US film producers, the Pierce brothers, Drew and Brett. Originally called Hag, it would be better.
Ben (Jean-Paul Howard) is a troubled teenager, one summer coming to stay with his divorced father, Liam (Jamison Jones), at a seaside resort; he was fixed with a job at the marina that Liam managed. Ben begins to have feelings for the beautiful, smart Mallory (Piper Curda), who works there, but he is also obsessed by the strange family living next to his father's house, especially his mother, Abbie ( Zarah Mahler), who is behaving very well
The tiring flashback of 35 years earlier began the film that hinted at the horrific events that have taken place in this house. . ?
This film has squeezed ideas from Hitchcock, Spielberg, Stephen King and others, but these loans don't feel like the movie's fetish, just the general styles that the directors have absorb from the atmosphere of the industry. There's a little Blair Witch here, and a little bit of J's horror, and the movie specifically shows the confusing belief now that in order to be really scary, you have to look like a hideous demon back to face. with the camera in a series of shaky cries.
The heart of the story is frustratedly divided between the Ben family, and Abbie, and the result is a dreadful puddle of mud.
