My friend and I want to go for a winter walk in sunny weather. We find the hiking trail GR15 in the east of the Algarve from Vila Real de Santo Antonio on the coast to Alcoutim along the Guadiana river. There are also smaller routes than the GR15. Absolutely beautiful and pristine. We stayed at Almada DóOuro at Casa Da Paz - a beautiful B&B with river views and only a two bedroom suite (from £ 70). We had one room each. An excellent breakfast with fruit, ham, cheese and eggs is included. A fire in the evening. A great host.

Lapland paradise, Sweden

If you are torn between an adventure in Lapland but need your ski repair, Luleå in the north of Sweden offers the best of both worlds. Stay close to the frozen Baltic for snowshoeing, reindeer and Northern Lights trips, then take an hour's drive to the small Storklinten ski resort. This is where the locals spend a weekend of downhill or cross-country skiing, have lunch around a bonfire and enjoy perfect snow and empty and opulent pistes.
Reward yourself for a night at the Tree Hotel or the resort in one of the elegant cabins in the forest (Bear Lodge is suitable for families).

I suggested using Italian coffee for Corso Garibaldi coffee, where the owner kindly let us sit down for dinner and invited us to taste his famous five-year-old anchovy.

Located on the edge of Europe, Greece
Finikounda, at the southwestern tip of the Peloponnese, is literally on the edge of Europe. A nice 90 minute bus ride south of Kalamata is a peaceful and authentic village with more Greeks than British tourists. Its main gravel road is adjacent to the curve of the blue flag beach, with several sea side pubs. Watch the moon rise over the bay while savoring delicious casual Greek cuisine and local strong wines for half the price you pay on the islands. The sporadic traffic links will soon create considerable joy, which is the joy that is right there.

Fabadas and the fishing village, Asturias

The fishing villages along the rugged Cantabrian coast are worth the effort to get there. One of the most spectacular is the Lastres. Get off a bus at the top of the village and fall on cool, sloping roads. At Restaurante Marbella on Calle Corea, it's worth the wait for a rooftop terrace that juts out from behind, with mountains and the sea stretching out on either side. A hearty fabada (Asturian bean stew) and a bottle of sidra are perfect to share. The compact sandy beach at the bottom of town is the perfect place for an afternoon nap as the sun sets over the hills.


Mountain hut, Slovenia

With three sides dominated by the Julian Alps and a steep mountain path that offers a unique path, Drežnica is not the place where a lot of stumbles. Relax, a new, brightly colored holiday home with warm wood chips and modern amenities is somehow perfectly suited to the mountain ridge. Italians are famous for their hospitality, and our wonderful owners have brought us fresh cow's milk and a delicious dessert. Tranquil wildlife haven, Lithuania

Nida is the last of the four old fishing villages on the island of Curonia - a thin strip of land in Lithuania with one side on the Baltic Sea and one side on the Curonia lagoon. During most of the year, it was a haven of peace for fishermen, visiting artists and many animals that spit in saliva (all are nature reserves). In summer, it gets crowded when tourists visit the sandy beaches, electronic music and jazz festivals and boat races. Ferries and environmental charges for a car with passengers of around € 30.
